WHY PLAY LACROSse?

What Sport is Women's Lacrosse most Like?

Lacrosse is played on a field similar in size to a soccer field with 12 players on the field at once.  It requires speed and conditioning but instead of mastering kicking a soccer ball, one needs to master throwing and catching a lacrosse ball.  While the field size is similar to a soccer field, lacrosse has many elements that are similar to basketball.  Many describe lacrosse as a mix between soccer and basketball.

What Does it take to Excel at Lacrosse?

To be good at lacrosse requires stick skills, quick feet and smart play.  One can be good at the sport by excelling in one or multiple of those 3 categories but the best players will be able to excel in all 3.  Lacrosse is nicknamed, "The fastest sport on two feet" partially because the speed at which girls run around but also because of the speed at which the ball moves around on the field.  The sport requires very good hand-eye coordination.

Absolutely.  There are almost 600 4 year institutions that offer women's lacrosse through Division 1 (128), Division 2(114), Division 3(293), and the NAIA (37).  In fact, there are quite a few more women's programs at the college level than men's.

How Do you Practice to be Good at Lacrosse?

Outside of the obvious running and conditioning work that is needed, good lacrosse players will practice throwing, catching and shooting lacrosse balls all the time.  Throwing and catching a lacrosse ball well can be a hard skill to develop but once done, the game starts getting really fun for players.
